SpotSave (“the app”, “we”) helps you remember and find physical locations such as where you parked or left something. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information. SpotSave is offline-first and works without an account.
Summary
- No account or sign-up is required.
- Your spots, photos, notes and vehicle profiles are stored only on your device.
- Location is used only when you actively save a spot, refresh location, or use live tracking — never in the background.
- We do not sell your data, show ads, or run third-party analytics.
- You can export or permanently delete all your data at any time from Settings.
Information the app accesses
| Data / permission | Why | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|
| Precise / approximate location | Captured when you tap “Save Spot”, refresh location, or open live “Track”. | Stored on your device. Used on-device to show distance/direction. Not uploaded by us. |
| Camera / Photos | Optional — to attach a photo to a spot. | Copied into the app’s private storage on your device. |
| Microphone | Optional — to dictate a note using on-device/system speech recognition. | Converted to text for your note. Speech handling is performed by your device/OS. |
| Notifications | Optional — local parking-timer / spot reminders. | Scheduled locally on your device. No push server. |
| Biometrics (fingerprint/Face) | Optional — to unlock the app when App Lock is enabled. | Handled entirely by your device’s secure hardware. We never receive biometric data. |
How your data is stored
All spots, photos, notes, vehicle profiles, reminders and share records are stored in a local database and private file storage on your device. SpotSave does not currently include a cloud account or automatic cloud sync, so this data is not transmitted to our servers.
Maps & internet
The optional live “Track” screen loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. When you use it, your device requests map images over the internet, so OpenStreetMap’s tile servers receive standard network information (such as your IP address and the map area being viewed), subject to their own policy. All other features work offline. The “Navigate” action opens your device’s maps app with the spot’s coordinates.
Sharing
Sharing is always initiated by you. When you create a QR/link share, the app generates a random, opaque token that does not contain personal information. When you use “Share to apps”, the app hands a maps link (containing the coordinates you chose to share) to the app you pick. We do not broadcast or publish your locations anywhere automatically.
Analytics, ads and tracking
SpotSave contains no third-party analytics SDKs, no advertising, and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. We do not sell or rent your data. We do not build advertising profiles.
Your controls
- Export: Settings → “Export data (JSON)” creates a copy of your spots and vehicles.
- Delete: Settings → “Delete all local data” permanently removes every spot, vehicle, photo and share from the device.
- Permissions: You can revoke location, camera, microphone or notification permissions any time in your device settings; the app degrades gracefully.
- Uninstalling the app removes its local data from your device.
Data retention
Because data lives on your device, it is retained until you delete it (individually, via “Delete all local data”, or by uninstalling the app).
Children’s privacy
SpotSave is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
Data is kept in the app’s private storage. An optional biometric App Lock can require device authentication to open the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we follow platform best practices (least-privilege permissions, no hard-coded secrets, on-device storage).
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves (for example, if optional cloud sync is added in the future). Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
